  • Noobie Question.

    Hello to All

I have been reading posts on this site and must say thanks for the education and information thats available. I am looking to purchase a 3rd generation Surf SSR-G as late a year as possible.

How much difference in power and fuel consumption does a intercooler make.

Next Question does this model come with the heated fuel filter as standard or after market add on. I want to use SVO / WVO with minimal changes and the heater seems like a great start.

Does any one use a twin tank system? if so how many miles before it gets hot enough to switch over to veg and how many miles to clear the fuel lines of Veg.

    Any help greatly recieved

    Cheers

dont quote me on it - but i think the intercooler adds about 30bhp.

    Might be wrong! dunno

Mate - look in the forsale section, theres a 2001 surf - black - stunning! Buy it

As far as I've been able to find out the intercooled version is 145bhp as previously stated.

Fuel consumption is only an issue if you actually USE the extra horses - but if you give it some boot it'll take off like a scalded cat (At least by 4x4 standards anyway)

The heated fuel filter is part of the winter kit which is an addon but even if you've got one I don't think it'll be enough to let you run on veg without other modifications

        PS
        Get one !

Life is too important to take seriously !

My latest non intercooled 3rd Gen is better on Fuel in comparrison but it is a Manual Gearbox so you dont tend to floor it as much.
          35MPG on average.

            Thanks for the replies.

After reading more on veg powered Surfs on your forum, I think I will have to purchase a twin tank kit from the net around 400-500 diy. Any information on reliable system will be good?

The intercooler may be overkill for my use, I intend to use the surf for towing a caravan abroad and regular trips up and down the Country, not sure if the extra power for the intercooler is worth the extra cash?

I had a look at Ebay and Auto trader, 3rd gen ssr-g 1999 models around the 9 grande are these typical/good prices to pay at this spec and year?

            Thanks for the help.
