  • Speed awareness courses?

Ok so the letter hit the mat today. I got caught.

Anyone have any experience of speed awareness courses?

I think its this or the 3 points.

I'd go on the course myself. You might even learn something

if it saves points on ya license and that's it, end of, take it.

I know it's probably easier just to take the points if it's only ya first 3 as it won't affect your insurance renewal or anything anyway. But what happens a year or two down the line when you make a stupid mistake and get another 3? then you got 6 points to declare on your renewal?

Good point. I just wondered what the courses were like.

I think its half a day of talk and chalk.

Like you said 3 points is easier for an insurance company to swallow than 6.

You do the speed awareness course so that when you get nabbed the next time they can say well me lud he had no excuse we gave him a speed awareness course.

That's when you get the book thrown at you.

Spoke to someone recently who has been on the course and he did save the 3 points on the license. However, he did say that it states in the small print that you could attend the course and still get the 3 points!! It's all about your ATTITUDE when you are on the course so be aware of that fact,

                  Cheers, Nick

Done 1 last year. You only get the option of this once in 2 years.
You have a bunch of other people that inadvertantly exceeded a 30 when they thought it safe to do so.

The class I did was held by 2 advanced driving instructors.
When they ask why you though it ok to speed, tell them it was safe to do so as you could stop safely on your own side of the road in the distance you could see to be clear.

How cool is that. What a bargain.

Right sign me up straight away. I will of course be demanding my shopping trolley hiring coin key ring thingy and will complain bitterly if I dont get one.

Kinda takes the sting out of it if you get freebies.
