  • 2007 Hilux, and the Swedish 'Elk Test'

Not sure if some of you remember the Mercedes A class spectacularly failing the Elk test and ending up upside down...

For those that don't remember the Swedish "Elk" test is a test of stability and performing an emergency avoidance manoeuvre at a set speed.

The car needs to be able to approach the 'elk' at a minimum of 37mph(60kph) and be able to swerve out of the way safely.

The Hilux it appears didn't fair too well....

I wonder how our trucks perform????

Mine would roll over if you offered to tickle its tummy!

Must admit though, haven't noticed any Elks round Malvern lately, and the sheep off the common are fair game!

Not seen Many Elk here either, maybe us Brits don't bother trying to avoid them

I say the obvious solution is "fit big bull bars"

See, black ones are better! The 2nd black Hilux was far less airborn.

I WANT a truck that fails the 'Elk Test' anything that dosn't hasn't got enough ground clearance!

If the truck's set up properly don't the elk pass underneath unharmed?

                  Translated from Swedish:

                  NEWS FLASH!
Trucks with high ground clearance and stiff suspension tip during cornering.
Our reporter, Reporter, was on the scene:

Shock and horror at the scene today when we found out that off-road vehicles aren't as good on road as on-road vehicles.

... mind you, my Swedish is a bit rusty, so it's only a rough translation

well if your latest escapades are anything to go by, your time would be better spent keeping a look out for bears rather than elks!
