  • Saturday on the spanners.Sunday in the swamps

Well what a top weekend I have just had. Saturday managed to fit new front wheel stud, change out glow plugs, change out inner and outer track rod ends, flush rad and fit A bar.

So having spent all day saturday on the spanners me and a mate decided to go for a bit of a jolly.

We found 4 local fords from http://vamp.idlers.org/~jaffa/index.htm
    (wetroads).

I did them all but chickened out of one having seen it swallow the front of my mate's Range Rover. (MOT in a couple of days time can't afford to break anything. Thats my excuse and am sticking to it.)

On the last one of the day we came across a well stranded Range Rover that had grounded out over a bank of mud. So after recovering him he told us of a local green lane and off we went.

The green lane looped back to a ford so through we went.

As always the Surf never missed a beat however it has developed a strange electrinic noise when signalling to go right but pretty sure some WD 40 will sort.

The more I use the Surf the bigger the smile it puts on my face.

    Tequilla - breakfast of heros.

        I do.
The plate is now bent and currently facing skywards after the last Bala trip.

I need to drop this lot off anyway as I pretty sure I am never going to be towing anything with it.

Edit - Good call I never thought that the water might be causing the problem at the tow bar end.

        Cheers for that

Today mate I learnt a very valuable lesson.

Always go off road with a mate with a 4 wheel drive and when you get to a ford send him through first.

Glad you had a good day out- so did I at a quarry and I`m still grinning! Just watch that info on the wetroads site as some are outdated. One close to me dated 2004 is now a bird sanctuary and footpath!

              Agreed there mate.

I had clocked the fords I was going to attempt awhile back but was'nt sure of how up to date the info was on them. Thats why my mate in the Rangee went through first.

Its not as though it a better off roader than the Surf but it has been body lifted and as I said MOT this week so couldnt afford to break it before then.

Plus my mate is a nutter and good on the spanners so if he kippers it there is a good chance he can fix it.

I like this offering regarding Garstang Ford :-

"I headed for the left bank, Garstang side, as it seemed the shallower option, well shallower but still about 8-9 inchs. I didn't stop to measure! I turned round and had and other go, and then another! The last run scared me as I stayed more in the centre of the river at the Garstang exit and it went a bit deep, like up to the wheel centre of my Land Rover (13inchs!!) "

Is it just me or is that VERY gay? 13" doesn't even qualify as a puddle round here!

We did one in Coleshill and from there went towards Coventry I will try and find the name of this one out later. Then we drove towards Coughton Court and picked up two round there plus the green lane.

The one I chickened out of could have been done by the Surf with probably little effort but as my turbo pipe has a slight split in it and the fore mentioned MOT on the way it just wasnt worth the risk.

The only one below about 13 inches was the Coughton Court one.
