  • My new alarm..

was fitted today and i am chuffed to buggery with it. Its one of These.
It pages me when the alarm goes off or someone looks into the car windows, and chirps to warn the thieving sods off. The remote is cool too it's backlit and vibrates and bleeps and stuff. And now to read the bible that came with it!!!

No mate, primarily because the cert needs to be vsib recorded and only registered installers can do that or the cert is void and secondly 2 alarm fitters wanted to charge £150 to fit it so wouldn't be any cheaper. They did say they could supply that alarm cheaper tha £75 also. So i went with the package, less hassle, thanks for the info though, My mate bought one so wasn't wasted

in all honesty it rarely affects the price of insurance. Most insurers insist on cat 2 immobiliser to insure an import, having a cat 1 doesn't seem to do much to the price though. For it to save you 15% your insurance would have to be very cheap to start with! Don't expect more than £20 off your annual premium.

Also if they're not offering you much discount your better off not declaring it. The insurer can't shaft you for not declaring a recognized security feature that is fitted, but if you declare one and then try to make a theft claim when it's not activated they can reduce your payout, or refuse your claim outright.

I'm with adrian Flux and it's them that insisted it was fitted. On my 2nd gen they weren't bothered. Maybe it's only applicable to the newer trucks.
