  • 1.6 HDI Fantastic!

I have just replaced my wifes car as our family is growing very soon, so i chopped in my C3 and bought a xsara picasso (i know I know its a very sad car, but cant avoid the practicalities) its a 1.6 HDI and i cant believe the economy, and the power. It has buckets of torque and im getting a return of 62 mpg at 75 mph.

Not surf related but i find it amazin that such a small diesel engine can pack that much of a punch (110BHP) and still return a good mileage, theyre cheap to buy too.

The surf of course still stays and in no means does this reflect me driving it less. Good cheap to run motor in my opinion.

Couldn't agree more. PSA diesels are brilliant, I've worked at Citroen and Peugeot dealers for nearly 20yrs and had loads of them BX's, ZX's, Xantia, all diesels and not one of them let me down. Just not as much fun as a Surf!
Anyway its a two by four most of the time....

I had the 2.0 hdi before and did 83,000 miles in it and it required nothing but standard servicing. The 1.6 hdi is a more reliable lump so i dont know whats gone wrong with the ones youve seen, maybe its because they are the best selling mpv for years and there are so many that odds are a few will need fixed from t2t.

1.6 petrols are hopeless, 2.0 hdi were bad on fuel pumps in early models but lately far far better. Apparently the 1.6 hdi lump is now in over 8,000,000 cars and thats in just 3 years since manufacture so parts should be available

Oh and btw, i have gone for 3 years extended warrunty for when manufacturers one runs out

Amen to that, i have heard reams of horror stories with that motor, electrical failures daily, must cost renault a fortune in recalls. Im hoping the hdi is gonna be a reliable motor, ive read good reviews, but i suppose every car make has breakdowns. Except maybe honda and toyota who i imagine are more scarcely recovered for failures.

generally french are worst, jap is best lol,as far as citroen goes the good old xantia is worst, now the c5,they drop lower than the xantia,c2 triptronic gear box is another good one lol, picasso is normally fuel pump or elecs and immobilser losing code, but renault is worst,it's those damn credit card keys, battery dies inside,u can't get steering lock off,and if auto, stuck in park lol,and if they got electronic handbrake, flat battery means no handbrake lololol

Better keep my rac card handy then , 4 years of warrunty should see me right, funny you should say that, my mate has 1.6 petrol and his just wouldnt start one day as the immobiliser had lost its code.

Lagunas ive also heard have a delight for breaking down, too many toys not well made, maybe they should have gone for a few toys well made. Ive seen one in a garage with 30 k on clock- gearbox failure, £1300 repair,,,,, Chronic
