If it has a diode test function with buzzer, you can use that as a good enough continuity buzzer.

          Hi again,

          No,
it has a diode setting of which I've never used BTW,
          but no buzzer.

I had a look in Maplins yesterday on the off-chance but all they had was a MM with a continuity, which is good.
Initially I was hoping to find One that might buzz on 12V measurements,

you know, when your checking something out of sight under bonnet, and can't see the gauge or the light in the 12V pen thing,
a buzzer would be great sometimes.

Presumably I could buy the MM with Continuity buzzer, and make up a 12V buzzer perhaps inside a small pen or something

unless any of you have seen an all purpose item anywhere

          cheers Henry

continuity test only checks continuity... not voltage.

A simple 12v buzzer or lamp connected to two probes will indicate the presence of 12v.

However, as Slug says, continuity is something different. You're looking for a low resistance path / short with a continuity measurement.

For the price of DMMs these days, its not worth trying to modify one. Just go and buy one that does what you need. You'll find one for under £15 if you look around.
