I had problems getting insurance too ! After ringing round all morning I eventually went with Direct Line. Tescos didn't have a 2.4 td SSRX Automatic on their computer, only a 3ltr Manual, so they wouldn't insure me. I phoned them back later and got "we don't insure imports" !! Liverpool victoria had a 2.4 td SSRX but Manual gearbox on their computer so wouldn't insure my Automatic. It's just one big nightmare !!

It just seems like luck of the draw, some people can get tescos to insure them and others can't ???

        Andy 92td SSRX

(insured it for £390 fully comp with all extras at direct line, needed an immobiliser but that's another story !!!)

Mine's with Tesco, £407 fully comp, protected no claims, £100 excess, no immobiliser and they did find my car which is a 1993 2.4 SSRX automatic.

As with a lot of the companies, it's who you talk to on the end of the phone. If they are know nothing F**kwit then theres not a lot to be done.

          Cheers

For your spare cover, do a google search for 4 Counties or Formular 4x4. or any other 4x4 accessory shops. Plenty to choose from.

Liverpool Victoria had my 3.0 Auto insured before I went to commercial insurance and they were the cheapest - wierd!

A-plan have a special division for imports and I pay about £600 for fully comp business use which I think is b****y good.

                    Rich.

Welcome Brian,I'm with Lifesure £337 fully comp & windscreen etc. As for your wheel cover, do you want a complete one or just the disc?(thats if its the hard sort) I might be able to help got a friendly sign writer chap round the corner he dose soft and hard covers and might supply just the disc if asked nicely.

Hopefully picking up my 3 litre SSR-X LTD Edition on Saturday and found insurance depends upon various individuals at the Insurance Companies.

Liverpool Victoria (Frizzell) first said they didn't do imports and then rung them back and was quote £560 full comp

Tesco quoted me around £800 full comp

Adrian Flux do specialist import insurance and was quoted £609 full comp

                        This just shows the difference

Gees...you guys must be doing something I'm not....phoned Direct Line and they qouted me over 1100 quid for mine.

Finally went with Adrian Flux for 609 quid comprehensive cover, 7yrs protected no claims and with immobiliser fitted.

Any kind of modification to your Surf (suspension / body lifts, engine mods, non factory bullbars, winches, alloys, mud terrain tyres) then you may find that Adrian Flux are the only company who will talk to you. Also bear this in mind if you have not declared any such "changes" to your current insurance company. When it comes to the 'crunch' you may find you that your insurance is invalid if there's something you haven't told them. And believe me- they will look for any excuse not to pay out.

                              insurance

Insured with Norwich Union after they couldn't find a 3.0l
They insisted on a Cat 1 immobiliser. Which was a pain 'cos last year I had a Cat II fitted ' great expense, they still insisted until I said I was going to go elsewhere, they had a rethink and decided that a Cat II was ok but upped the premium by ............................£2 0!!!!!!! a year . Now I could have had
a Cat 1 fitted @ £200-£300 but after a bit of haggling eventually got it for £435 plus they threw in 5 years N.C.B. which was odd 'cos I told them that I already had 6 years N.C.B protected, had problems too with Tesco's not finding automatics, Last years insurer Adrian Flux increased the premium by £100. So shop around!!
