just got my insurance paperwork through from A-plan for the surf , Groupama fully comp protected n/c, all glass covered £200, well pleased with that! my 4ltr soarer is £220 fc!

Sorry to semi-hijack the thread.

But.......

has anybody else noticed that more and more insurance companies are refusing to insure vehicles with bull/A bars?

Mine (nig through Lifesure) told me that my car was illegal for having one on. when I pointed out they were looking at the wrong rules they changed their minds, still is this the way it's going to go?

coolsv650 you may be right, as some time ago there was a report on tv regarding the injures caused when someone is hit by a vehicle sporting a bull bar up front ,and i think there was a move on getting them banned ,never heard any more though . incidently neither my broker (a-plan) or the insurance company (groupama) asked if i have a bull bar fitted , it so happens i don't but i have thought about getting one fitted as it gives the truck a more masculine look, though i notice it has been indicated that a bull bar could increase mpg, but i am putting on roof bars so expect the mpg to decrease anyway plus the truck is about as streamlined as a brick so who cares.

i had a prang in mine on Monday and i hit the side of a 2006 mitsi L200 p/up i reacon if i never had my bars on then i would of ended up with alot more damage to mine than there was

Exactly, the same happened to me on the way home from tony's and bars were pushed into bumper but saved the lights, bonnet, wings etc. Just hooked a cargo strap round em, other end to a lamp post and rarcheted them back to where they used to live. just a couple of dents in the bumper, so took it off and knocked em out.

I can see the (failed) logic but if people are stupid enough to step out in front of 2 tonne of metal the bull bar could well be the least of their worries!

What the insurance fail to notice is the damaged caused when you don't have a bull bar fitted. I've seen the mess that a full size adult deer made to my dads Peugeot, & the mess that a baby bambi made to my plastic escort front end!

In the last year I've had a divvy reverse into the front of the missus truck & some other one slam on infront of me, both times the bullbar saved the front end. They are quite handy for pushing broken down surf up my drive as well
