    great idea mate

They work a treat the breathers good idea.

If you do a lot of water crossing's have a look at the gear box oil as well mate.

The gearbox can be fitted with extended breathers aswell, installed them on my last hilux, a bit harder to do and requires some child labour for the small hands.

Worth doing as it's big buck$ if you blow a gear box.

    cheers matthew

Are the breathers the same for manual transmission as for auto boxes.

Also where did you get them from.

          Cheers JB

            gearbox breathers

My old hilux had similar breathers to my diff's. Have not looked close at the surf manual and auto gearbox's.
On the old hilux all i did was extend the gearbox breathers by repacing the breathers with a brass ryco air fitting then running some fuel hose from it to a fuel filter in the cab.
If the surf gearbox is a bit more difficult than that have a look at the following link for inspiration.

i found that the rear was easy to do but it a bit akward on the front
until i found some bits in the shed basicly they are 90% grease nipples
with the ends unscrewed the ball bearing and spring removed so its a constant flow so just to be on the safe side i driled out the ball housing slightly just for better air flow and with it being at a ninty% it fits a lot
              neater on the front

I did my front, back and tank a while ago. managed to find some push fit air fittings that screw'd in, still have the box to do, i think the thread is 1/8th although not sure, i think the box one will be easier with the body lift tho

thread on the diffs is called a 1/8 BSP thread apparently, although to confuse the issue 1/8 BSP measures pretty damn close to 3/8" diameter

as for threads i get confused with em, am i right in thinking that the difference between 1/8th BSP and 1/8th npt is the NPT is a taper thread? i had no end of aggro when i was doing the gauge senders (oil pressure) the one that came with the gauge was NPT and i think the hole in the block is NPT,had to send off for a an adaptor for the remote teem bl00dy things!! why cant they make em all the same
