    HELP PLEASE !!

    v6 ssrx surf

vehicle has got engine idle problems

When its cold the O/D light flashes and the engine wont turn off.

When its warm (about 15 mins) the above faults go away but the idle speed drops.

This means the engine cuts out at traffic lights (etc).

You have to keep the accelerator slightly pressed and press the brake with the other foot to keep it going.

Do yiou know anybody in the slough area that specialises in Hilux??

When you say the engine won't turn off, do you mean it is impossible to stop it running? That must be scary.

I am not going to be able to give you an answer (I just about know where the fuel goes in), but there are temperature sensors that make the engine idle higher when cold and slow down again once warm. If the engine is cold, it will also be unable to go into O/D and that might have something to do with the light flashing.

In view of the above, my guess would be that either the sensor or whatever it connects to has a problem.

As stated before, your best bet for a Hilux specialist would be TonyN in Basingstoke (www.4x4toys.co.uk) but he is not really taking on much new work at the moment. He will be on later and may well be answer your question better.

So is it the one on ebay then?

                      And change your air filter.

I aint the expert but having had loads of issues with my V6 (mostly my own fault)
                        I would check the AFM.
It seems to control most things once the car is running.

TonyN (the expert) fixed mine (atleast twice so far!!!)

You forgot to ask if it's the one on ebay.

Tony showed me the AFM on mine when I was last there and explained about yours, sounds like a good game working than one out. Presumably, given the problems it causes, an actual lack of air would cause similar problems - hence my suggestion about the filter.

Maybe it's sucking hard when it starts so idling very high, then relaxing once its warmed up and stalling due to lack of air. So my money is on either the air filter or the AFM now.

Thanks to everyone I think sensors are a good place to start.
Find a garage in Henley called Cocksons or something like that.
                            See what they say.

YES IT IS THE ONE ON EBAY - BID TO BUY AND SAVE ME THE TROUBLE TO FIX IT.

my mates skyline had similar problems.

Air Flow Meter was the fault. As already said it could be a good place to start.
