  • Power Cut Blew My Wireless Router

We had a total power cut up here at around 18.10 tonight. As normal when this happens I go around switching everything off at the sockets. When the power came back on 40 minutes later and I turned everything back on all was fine except my wireless router, it's totally dead.

It was on the same surge protecter as my computers and my broadband modem and they are all fine. Can I claim from the electricity company or is this just sh!t that happens? Don't want to claim on household insurance as there is a £50 excess.

If you have a receipt and it still looks new take it back from where you bought it and say it just died 1yrs guarantee

Unfortunately it's about 2 and a half years old. I'm taking it to work tomorrow to get the elec. tech. lads to check it out, hopefully it might just be the power supply.

I may be in luck here as the surge protector is Belkin. I'll dig out the bumf that came with it (if I can find it).

If you can prove it was plugged in to the surge protector, won't it be covered by their guarantee?

Just been up the loft to find the box it came in, unfortunately there are also about 100 other boxes up there as well! Will have a better look tomorrow, the way my lucks going today I'm bound to put my foot through the ceiling!

belkin are complete poo. out of personal experience, netgear do better for actually routing traffic. they handle multiple devices a lot better. i dunno what their wireless is like because in my fault finding i sorted out a wired system. then i eventually gave up with belkin and moved to netgear.
there is a lot more options in the web menu and its plug and play with applications that need ports configuring on the router. think its called uPnP or something

copycat was the router plugged into your surge protector? i cant have one or else it messes up my wired network through the mains!
                              Oh Nana, what's my name?
