I remember once, watching an episode of the garage that a guy in a Dodge Dakota had been out playin in gravel... picked up a mysterious noise.. turned out to be lumps of gravel just trapped in general places ...

Just a total long shot.. but hey! its a cheap option!

You could have got cack inside the stub axle bushes (bronze bushes) Take the drive plates off the hubs to stop the front shafts going round and take it for a drive. If the noise stops you'll know its front drive shaft related, if its still there its got to be bearings or gravel in the pads or wedged behind the brake disc cover plate.

did you ever sort this it sounds just like mine??! whacked a new bearing in tonight and its still playing up...
im wondering if the bronze bush is to blame as over speed humps etc it sometimes grinds too and feels a bit "wooden" (they have always clattered by the way)

so I guess im down to bronze bushes or CV?

maybe you ran over a midget who was angle grinding a hammer and now he's stuck up in your engine bay or wheel arch (you'll have to check which coz i can't tell from here) which would explain the grinding and clattering noises.

easily fixed...just wait a few days and he'll die.

then you'll be on here asking what could cause a smell that bad. which beside the dead midget could be a dead cat - or spilt milk - neither of which leave a nice smell in your truck.
i swear, it was like that when i got here...

oh, just realised how long ago this was. midget is probably already dead by now.

                        does the truck smell?
