viton seals???

had a chance to speak to a diesel specialist today,spoke bout veg oil etc and accordin to him,veg oil and white spirit will eat at the standard rubber seals on pumps etc but some cars have "viton" rubber seals which wont perish,anyone heard of this?or if replacements are available?

Do 'normal' seals definitely NOT contain this? It sounds like its a product in use in the automotive industry, so typical fuel pump seals amy use it anyway. I wouldn't have thought they'd be plain old rubber as the heat would get to that too.

Rumour has it that most new seals are not rubber anymore anyway. Older 2.4's running on veg often have leaky pump seals. I've only ever done 3.0, but lots of 2.4's

The seals go hard and brittle, but rubber ones do that over time anyway, especially when in contact with fuel, hense the new improved 'super rubber' ones.

tony any ideas on how to get them?or do u honestly think ill be ok with white spirit and oil?mines a 94 3.0td?

Most leak from the top lid seal, with is easy to do with the pump in place. Next common is the covers on the lower sides of the pump, outside is OK, inner one means taking the pump out.

Anything else is a pump apart job, which normally means specialist gear to put it back together, but rarely happens/

Can't really comment on the sprit, never used it. But we generally run 20lts or so of veg each tank in the winter, and about 40lts or more in the summer.

I wouldn't leave truck standing for more than a week or so if it has any veg in it.

That's not a bad price from a specialist, I was quoted £350-£400 and the same again to remove and replace the pump.

Let me clarify, mine is the old mechanical pump, so is a pig to get out ( cam belt off and all that jazz), yours is the electronic type, and you can buy a new one from Aus for about £200 so it ain't too bad, mine, new from Toyota is £2500.00
