Most malts from Islay - so that would be Ardbeg, Bowmore, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Bunnahabhain, Bruichladdich but my favourite is

Laphroaig

I like it so much I'm an honourary 'owner' of a square foot of the mountain they get the water from to distill the whisky!

Having said that, I went to the Middleton distillery in Cork a few months back where they make Jamesons - there's lovely and so was the whiskey.

Ideally you should add some water to release the full flavour. No ice, no other mixers.

i just drink lager... whatever's cheapest... if we're betting then usually grouse, cos that's what they have on tap in the pub!

I used to drink heavily, ie drink myself into a coma every night of the week, I drank to get drunk, but went cold turkey 3 years ago, damn that was hard, got withdrawal symptons and hangovers for 3 months afterwards, and for the next 2 years, I wanted a drink every day, but resisted.

Now I don't like the feeling of getting drunk, so a couple of pints of whatever does me.

But I DO miss the flavour of a nice whiskey or brandy, or for that matter a nice red wine or port or a nice strong ale.

Like the flavour don't like to be p1ssed, never thought that would happen

The only Whisky (not Whiskey, that's Irish) I drink is old Bunnahabhain. They do a lovely 1965 35 year old, can really taste the raisins in it. Only issue is that it's now around £800 a bottle.

I've also got 2 40 year old (1963) that cost me £200 a bottle. I know the distillery manager and both the bottlers who have signed the labels. Only 750 bottled from that run and more than half are gone. Mine should be rising in value nicely now...

Well done at least you got it under control before it got outer hand. I know a few who didn't poor chaps. Good on ya.

You forgot Jura, that's also an Islay malt.

I'll drink any brand that's on offer in Tesco. Currently drinking Grants but for those occasions when only a good single malt will do I prefer Balvenie, also distilled by Grants.

The tesco bourbon was quite good, from what I remember, although I was p1ssed, so who knows, seemed ok at the time, not quite a JD/Wild Turkey but ok for £8 a bottle.

I would love to go to the Jameson distillery but don't know if I'd last long enough to enjoy the experience, probably pass out after the 4th one

Highland Park has got to be my favourite the flavour is just superb, though for a really smooth clean tasting whisky MacAllan goes down well.

But i do tend to favour the more peaty ones. It also depends on the situation having it with food or just sitting chilling, and the most important who buying.

At the moment on the trailer we are using Glen Moray generally because it is local and it is not bad and it goes well with the porridge, tried Jura on it and that was excellent but there was less profit in it.

I am quite partial to a nice jd and coke too. Although when i have a few extra beer tokens i quite like makers mark. Have had a few bottles of bullet burbon too which is nice. Had some nice single male with the girlfriends dad but that was about 5 in the morning after his 60th i was so $$$$ed at that stage cant remember what it was called! We had to get up early in the morning to go for a meal the and we were both feeling rather worse for wear!

Cream of the Barley is my favourite, I also like Morrison's 'The Best' , Laphroig, Lagavulan, Edradour, most whiskys really.

I usually drink them neat or Morrison's Best in my coffee at piecetime. Being originally a Highland lassie, I was brought up on whisky, it was Dewars everybody drank in those days. We used to make table lamps out of the Dimple bottles.

Cream of the Barley is also good at lambing time - the days just fly by.

I gave up drinking Scotch in January 1975 after i sobered up ...... 5 bottles and £40+ over Christmas and New Year ........

HOWEVER I do drink the odd drop of whiskey these days - my preferred tipple is Powers 12 year old but it's rarer than rocking horse droppings over here so I usually end up with Powers Gold label or Jamesons.

For a liqueur Irish Mist is the dogs rear wheels !

I don't think you can visit the distillery but they run a tourist trap at the old distillery in Dublin. Jackie and I did the tour while we were celebrating our Silver Wedding there in 2003. They choose two people from each tour to carry out a tasting - Jackie (virtually a non-drinker !) was one of those selected and got to taste 6 different Jameson products ..... she came down in favour of the 12 year old Powers. After the tasting was over I did a bit of mine sweeping and repeated the tasting as she hadn't cleared out each glass

I was more than a little amazed that I actually agreed with her verdict !

She's just come back from a few days over there with her Mum BUT she didn't bring back any of the 12 year old cos she reckoned it was too expensive !!!!
