Yes I remember that one now, he didn't keep it long, but I guess a surf is not for everyone.

It looks to be a mechanically sound vehicle, even if it is blue but you can't have everything

Get rid of the side steps and give it a lift, it'll look great.

How often do you replace the tyres? I can't really see us doing much off roading and we may possbly tow a camping trailer.

I'm imagining this would be more comfortable than a landrover too.
            Welcome.

We've got 2 surf's I was so impressed by my first one I had to get her indoors another one!!

            3 kids.... (1 only 3 months old), 2 dogs & a 6 birth caravan.

Fuel consumption is about 20mpg for me, but there are a lot of hills around and my job means I might do a lot of 2-3 mile journey's.

I put 4 new tyres on mine, the remaining original one is just about work out (nearly had it on 3 years), the other 3 have been slashed by local scumbags.

Go on.... you know you want one!

The fuel consumption thing is an issue, especially with fuel prices going up being all over the news today.

I may have budged him slightly though, I'm so desperate to be rid of the Skoda.
He recognises that it could suit our outdoor lifestyle. But it's very hard going and we have a long way to go yet.

But Thanks guys for all the advise. I'm data gathering all this stuff.

Surfs aint great on fuel, especially compared with a modern diesel car!

But they are just great trucks, Well worth getting

                      Hi Siobahn, and welcome!

The Surf, as others have said, isn't the best for fuel, but use veg oil in it, and you'll pay less!

It's the best vehicle I've ever owned, and those weekends when you are at a loose end and wondering what to do, you can mod the hell out of it, I mean, go for a nice drive in the country and explore those lanes you always wondered where they went to - it will go just about anywhere!!!!

Plenty of room for camping stuff, kids, dogs, shoes.......not that I know about the latter....

Go on, get one - tell hubby to try one and he won't argue any more - and if he does, buy it anyway!

Yup, the surf will carry 5 people and all the shopping/camping gear you need and not even notice the wieght, and make no difference in fuel, plus go up any moutain in the UK and probably the world ( slight exageration maybe)

On a long motorwaytrip my 2.4 will return almost 30mpg if you drive sensibly, and will run on veg oil, which saves around 30% in fuel cost, therefore bringing the fuel cost in line with your 40mpg skoda..........am I making sense yet??

There are ups and downs to all vehicles, but the surf is a good allrounder if you do family camping and stuff, just check out the Oz and US site for trail reports, these guys go everywhere camping and "wheelin'" in anything from virtually standard to heavily modded surfs.

On a recent trip to Wales I carried 250kg of gear 300 miles, then went off road and camping, no problems, exept a slightly reshaped bash plate, and it was a hell of a lot more civilsed to drive than a l**d r**er.
