  • OT- Broadband speed, any ideas?

New connection with BT Broadband and having some weird results! From Bt.speedtester.com I get these results,

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6443 kbps

which I am very happy with. Yet when I use any online speed checker I get these results,

Now I've been onto BT who say its my machine, which as a fairly savvy user of a pc I don't accept.

Could anyone offer me an explanation?

    Ta,

    Dave

Depends on what your line is capable off. What results do you get from http://speedtester.bt.com/

Ideally you're stats from Global speedtest (London server better) should mirror those from the BT test site. If not worth looking at your pc settings.

pirate the difference between what bt are providing and what global speed test give you could be down to your Rwin and MTU settings.

I have been sat here researching on the web and I'm happy to show you what I did but remember all I have done is read and follow other folks instructions.

Use the tool here http://www.dslreports.com/tweaks (scroll down a bit) and input your figures from http://speedtester.bt.com/

then use the free download tool to set the figures correctly on your pc here
              http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp

              then reboot your pc.

I more than doubled my speed in a few minutes.

Did you make any changes? You've gained 1.5 meg in speed from the last results from Global speedtest.
