Does any one have the gross weight of the Surf on their V5 document. Failing that does any one know the gross weight of a Surf or on others words the maximum weight that a surf could carry without prejudicing safety margins? If it is over 3500kgs this would legally allow Surf owners to tow a trailer up to 2.55 metres wide and 12 metres in length. My V5 document for a surf 3.0 litre auto does not have this info which makes it a grey area.

There are lot of different fiures around the net for 4Runners and Surf, you won't find a GVW for a Surf easily.
A UK 4Runners kerb weight ( unladen weight + full tank & 75kg driver ) for MOT brakes tests is 2040kgs.
The yanks list towing weight for a US spec V6 4Runner as 1500kg, but Toyota UK say 2200kg in some cases, and 1500kg is others.
GVW for a UK 4Runner is 2520kg, with word of mouth from a dealer of 1900kg for unladen weight (NVW)
So GVW of 2520kg, plus 2200kg trailer = 4520kg max train weight.
But if you need to prove any of this offically or legally, good luck!
I doubt short of a full size Chevy Suburban you'll find anything with a GVW of 3500kg thats not a Lorry.4x4toys.co.uk - Keeping you on and off the road...

We got pulled by the ministry the other day with a 2ton trailer (7'x14')behind a 2.4d surf and nobody new theese figures and they were desperate to nick us. eventually after 45 mins of phone calls they decided that you are allowed to tow your own weight with a braked trailer and the axles on the trailer were rated at 2 ton so they let us go.www.cnpbetterhomes.co.uk
