          A little update,

          The colic apparently wasn't too bad, but was taken into the horsepital because his pulse was so high.

          he turned out to have spasmodic colic, whic is (I'm told) a mild form, and not usually life threatening, but you don't know that at the time, and you could tell he was in pain.

          Anyway, all seems good now.

                              It seems to me that horses are very fragile creatures, and if it wasn't for mans intervention and need for them, they would have become extinct by now.

                                Have to dissagree there - tis mans intervention that will be the death of um. Had horses since I was a kid. We didnt jab um every year, rug um up, stable um in the winter, worm um, have the dentist every 6 months or shoe um. They was fine back then. Too much fine breeding an spoiling now adays if you ask me.
