    SMILER is the name people

Proud owner of a met grey 3 door '92 2.4 D SSR-G Surf!!! Been taking me ags to get logged intot this forum as Kev Phillips will know.
I'm 24 and live in Doncaster, currently in the RAF, but only for two more years ish I hope!
Everything is sweet with the car, but after reading a few threads on here hope she stays that way. Just got to look after her!
One question I do have about her is she has a slighlty worn inner driver side tyre, other side is fine, just wondered if the tracking may be out, is there anyway of checking this myself? By the way, very novice engine knowledge here but willin to learn

    Speak soon

Hi and welcome, there are various threads re; tracking, I can only tell you of my experience.

Had my tracking done by the tyre fitter ( he knew less than me about tracking) had it checked and adjusted again a few weeks later at Quikfit, these people knew how to adjust it, but know nothing of surfs or the teering mechanism that can influence tracking.

Took it to a garage recomended by my general mechanic, who have the specialised knowledge to do this kind of work.

They found that the steering idler and track rod end had excessive play which is why it would not adjust properly.

I purchased and fitted these parts, and had them check and adjust the toe in/out and the camber/caster, and the surf now drives straight, and all is good.

You need to find someone who knows surfs/hilux/4 runner to do the work, or you will likely be paying for work which will have a worse effect and will need to be done again.

Edit; and grey is of course the best colour

Hello Smiler good to see another South Yorks Member ! Did you by perchance get your truck from aplace in Bentley ? kept passing one on Watchouse Lane parked up just down from Ringways garage. D&D Tyres on Askern road is your best bet as goldy says, Also good for new tyres ! Easy for me I suppose cos I only live a mile away in Arksey

Anyway good luck with your aquisition ! you won't stop smiling

thats just nonsense, shampoo and set indeed

you want to be more worried about the heated curler rack catching fire and getting blue rinse all over the upholstery
