Nowt to do with Surfs - but.....

Rob, I've bought a sink that came with a trap/tap set etc. but the trap is too small for the 32mm fittings I have (which I assume are standard all over the place).

Have you any idea what the fitting size is that's smaller than 32mm - and if so, how do I get it to fit the 32mm waste pipe???

    Cheers,

    Andrew.

Hi mate, 40mm is standard for kitchen sinks, baths and showers, and 32mm is standard for wash hand basins, if it's an old sink/basin, it may have a 1" BSP fitting that would have gone to a lead trap, so you may have to adapt the fitting, or change the waste fitting in the sink.

If the smaller size pipes are part of the linking system that comes with 1.5 bowls then you need a mechanical joint somewhere (1.25" mcalpine compression fittings for example)
None of the solvent weld (glued) or push fit pipes will marry the two.
If you get stuck post a pic!
Normally the kit supplied with the sink will terminate at the point you need to fit the trap!

      Hope that helps
      Alan.

Yes it is chrome - for a small bathroom basin, the threaded connection on the trap is just too small for the 32mm pipe - something like 1 - 2mm max.

If its a chrome bottle trap with a small piece of chrome pipe as its outlet, then the only way i've ever found to fit it is............................ .....

              MASTIC

seriously mate the pipe will have to be mastic glued into a plastic female solvent weld fitting , or you have to use a mcalpine compression fitting
              best of luck!

Cheers Alan - where is the best place to get the solvent weld stuff and/or McAlpine fitting?

B&Q should be your last stop if poss, try a local plumbers merchant, the solvent weld (glue) should be £3-£5 for a small tin, and they will have some universal compression fittings that will fit.

Note, you will only need the "glue" for the solvent weld fittigs, if you are useing all compression fittings then no "glue" required.

                    Hope that all makes sense.

PS: don't sniff the solvent weld, it's solvent, and will get you high as a kite, and if you do it for long enough, it'll give you brain damage ( ahh, those were the days)
