as you watch there are two waves the one I start in then I have to cross over a lump of water in the middle to get into the second wave, fun but scary at first

I'm a kayaker, well more used to be. I used to teach kayaking to kids in the UK and US and did a fair bit of whitewater in scotland, North Wales and Southern Ireland while I was a student. Most of this I did in a Dagger RPM which is collecting spiders in the shed but did get wet for one weekend at Treweryn this year. IMHO Dagger make good quality kayaks, the designs have changed alot but from what I've seen their still the quality end of the market. Enjoy it

when i was at naval school went to i think it was symmonds yat done a weekend canoeing /kayaking ??? a great laugh especially once you had turned over and realised you could get out easy ,

I've seen a few other makes that i like the look of. I've not seen these in the plastic so to speak, so have you any opinions on these.

The first one is a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 125 and the other is a Prijon. Not sure which one of those I like yet, but I love the Wilderness Systems boat.

To be honest nowdays the build of plastic boats is very good on the whole and as a "weekend" paddler your boat will last you years. I would look at the wieght of the boat as you may wish or need walk around the locks on the thames so need to be able to lift the boat in and out a lot or have a long walk to the beach, you can get light wieght wheels that strap on to make it easier, the Tsunami looks very good for straight line paddling if you look at its profile.

If you are touring in straight lines then all the boat you have linked will do the job. Most of the time if the boats are about the same size then the more weight would normally indicate a stronger boat so if you are going on the sea and are bouncing between wave tops the stronger boat is less likley to bend/flex.

It's worth your while spending out on a good set of paddles, when your next in a shop check out the weight of them incomparison to other paddles, if your out for a day it makes a big difference to your arms and shoulders.

I am not a Touring paddler as such so have never used any of the boats you linked to but can help on general info. It really depends what you need the boat to do?

The Tsunami 125 is 12' 6" long and weighs in at 34kgs, nearly all other boats I've seen in this or the 10' length class weigh in at about 22-26kgs, so from what you say, this boat should be very strong. I have also read some reviews on a US site, and nearly all give it 9/10 or 10/10, and all mentioned the adjustable seat as the most comfortable of any boat on the market today. One guy also mentioned that it has a lifetime warranty, which is a big plus point.

I haven't seen many places stock this boat though, only a few mail order places and it retails at £550 at one place and £699 at another. They do a Duralite version that weighs in at 20kgs, but thats another £200.

I'm going to see if the Berkshire Kayaks can get hold of one for me, when I've got the dosh to spend.
