  • Morning rant

Well, pick the surf up last night after having it booked in for the steering recall. The lass on the counter, quiet cute actually, says,

" There are a couple of items we need to draw your attention too & then we can arrange to book the car in to sort them out"

"OK, what & how much?" I ask.

    The following is the list, cost & hours she told me;

1 Front transfer box seal leaking, £162.03, 2hrs
2 Rear anti roll bushes worn, £91.56, 1hr
    3 Front discs & pads, £315.75, 1.5hrs
    4 All brake pipes corroded £402.73, 5hrs

Where the h311 do garages get figures like that from??? Do they think people will just pay & say nothing?

I politely declined as a mate runs his own garage as well as my cousin.

Rant over & thank you for listening.

ha ha, good old toyota main stealer. They came up with a list of things that needed to be repaired when my truck went in for the recall. I told them "thanks but no thanks" They were kind enough to replace a headlight bulb for free though.
Hold my beer and watch this

No, it was in for the recall job and that was completed but these were what they wanted me to re-book it back in for.

        Fat chance of that!!!!

i asked for the bill when i collected my car for the recall. do you know the croydon branch charge £58 per hour labour!
they put £8 of fuel in, and when i got back the car was mintly cleaned including inside.
the only thing i had an issue about is all the buttons had been pressed, like ecs, o/d. 4wd wasnt on though but if anyone is taking their truck into anywhere else i strongly advise you dis-connect the 4wd engage system so they cannot drive around in 4wd just in case.

when i very first got the surf it had been laid up for a while.upon closer inspection it was desperate for new front discs and calipers.toyota main dealer wanted 900 quid!!, politely declined and found out via this site i could obtain bits a lot cheaper

I got nought. No fuel, no cleaning, nothing. And to add insult further, the dinky toy I got as a courtesy car, an Auris, had no fuel in. Dash was flashing "Low Fuel".

                Well cheesed off with Minories.

And all the paperwork they gave me has the model as "Hiace Special Edition Petrol". Can't even identify their own models now!!

                Woohoo, 100 posts. Come on.

$$$$ dude. i hate pointing out stuff thats wrong especially to people that are supposed to know whats right. i kept my paperwork to build up a file for the car. when i bought it all i got was an MOT, and log book.
the auris i had had 2 bars of fuel and i was told to return it with the same ammount. it did have every panel scratched - i did worry about that but no need.
if the work that needs doing does actually need doing then really they are being courtious as some people would not know. we know dealers charge over the odds for labour but they all do dont they?

i was quite pleased with the auris. 2.0 turbo diesel was lightning quick. couldnt get cruise control working at 50 though.
and the person who booked me in managed to reverse wheelspin my truck and made the tyres screetch lol

Front transfer box? There's only one!
Anti rollbar bushes, under a tenner plus 10 mins work.
Front discs and pads, approx 85 quid plus an hour or two of your time.
All brake pipes corroded? I don't fink so, a couple of short sections on the rear axle maybe but never heard of all of them corroding.

Her car is only about 6 years old!!!! they told her that her rear break pad were worn and needed changing which they did and i was not around when they did this but told her to bring them home and they had loads of pad left on them!!!! they are lieing tw@ts and will never get any business from me and i have told her that i can fix little bits like that for just the cost of parts. I hate the way they speak to you like your stupid and blag you out of your hard earned dollar!

part of the recall job, for the steering link rod,
is that the dealer does a check of the car for you, good for people who know nothing about looking after them
also £10 of fuel and a bottle of bubbly, some also got the car washed - we didnt!

                          crazy prices all thesame

This is the thing, although i'm not a mechanic I know enough to keep an eye on the general wear & tear/running gear.

The pads are about 50% worn & the discs look fine. Rusty on the edge, as are most, but no cracks or lip. Run then against a file & the rusty edge will come off.

The pipes may have surface rust but brush that off and grease up as long as they are sound. Of course it's safety first so will get a good look to make sure.

It was already booked into my cousins garage for a pre MOT check and I know he will not stiff me . If anything needs doing then he will let me know & get the parts at trade price .

Its just so shocking that the labour looks to work out at about £75 per hour.

Thats more than the accountants that i've worked for charge!!

Dealers can't put huge mark-ups on new cars these days so they try and claw the revenue back in other ways to keep the CEOs in a manner to which they've become accustomed to.
