If I turn the sign 90 degrees clockwise then it will point to keep left

No it won't. I've spent the past few minutes playing with a keep right sign, if you turn it 90 degrees clockwise it become its mirror image, a keep left arrow

yes, the same way the pointy bit pionts down if it was a keep right sign. I've done a drawing to prove this, but the forum won't let me upload it (it's only 16k) and photobucket keeps crashing.
