After having to have one of our dogs put down yesterday due to a brain tumour,Today we recieved in the post a very nice card from the vets explaining it was the best thing to do etc which i thought was very nice of them as its the first time i have known a vet to do that.

    Sorry for your loss..

got a card from my vet when lost the mad cat...
vet was in tears with me at the end, she said she never really toughens up to having to put animals down. The only comfort she had that she passed on to me and i will pass to you, is it that your friend is no longer in pain...
Had enough... going to live in Spain....

It's Nice to know that not all letters are demanding or scrounging letters then Rich.... Nice touch I thought .... Compassion
Shame the same can't be said of us Humans, they'd wan us to keel over & die
      quietly ....enough said at Huumans

That is very true Jess. The vet was really good tho as she said to us to take as long as we wanted with Blaze and the other people in the waiting room can wait as it will be their pet at some stage.I will sooner pay over the top for a good careing vet then a vet that don't care less and just wants your money

Sorry to hear about Blaze, Rich - and I agree with Jess - it's so rare to get nice mail, even nicer from a vet or anyone you pay to do something for you ....

Really thoughtful of them to do that - nice to see that compassion and courtesy are not forgotten in society....

Recently had a Guide Dog owner die and the vet we use, went home four weks later to put his retired dog to sleep, as it also had cancer, while the wife went to make tea he and the nurse did the deed and they then all sat and drank the tea whilst crying over both the loses. the vet arranged cremation and the owner and dog are both resting together at their favorite freerun field.

By the way this vet did not charge and never does for Guide Dogs, so yes ther are some that are not out for just money.

It has cost us £200 for the injection and cremation and to have her ashes back in a nice urn to be buried and we think she was worth everypenny of it if not more.
I know there was the thread about Vets a few weeks ago about the charges but money don't come into it with my animals health and its a pity humans can't be treated the same.
I just thought that our local vet desrves the praise for all the work they do plus they have just opened another 24 hour practice so the animals are not left on they're own over night and its one of the only vets around here that do the 24 hour cover.

Sorry to hear it m8. This one must have slipped past my blurred vision yesterday. A couple of years back i came home to find my beloved alsatian sprawled out on the kitchen floor. He was bad for about 6 months but i couldn't have him put down so i kind of expected it, but it doesn't make it any easier. Still, 18 yrs old, he had a good innings and haven't had the heart to replace him with another.
