I got one of them from a Jet garage for £4.99 .I have had no probs . Used it in 3 different vehicles for inflating air beds and tyres and never let me down in 2 years. Maybe your one was faulty .

I drove Sarn Helen with http://www.onelifeadventure.co.uk/ and tried dropping pressure for the first time.

Dropped from 35 psi to 25 psi so still ok for the road.

Made so much difference; potholes and rocks that would have had the missus hanging off the handles sucking in breath we glided over easily without a word. Worth doing for that alone

I can't say if it improved grip, but the ride was much improved.

I bought a Michelin one from halfrauds, about £30, will inflate a flat tyre to 60 psi in under 5 mins, comes with loads of adaptors, no good for a nail gun tough.

why were smoke and flames coming from the dash?
probably would of been ok if you wired it direct to you battery?
