I would die if my truck looked like that. On Friday I went out for a play in the Surf, but the water was getting too deep too quick. So a trip home to get the Defender out. Worries over...

im not going to say what that looks like.

when your car sucks in water, what happens?
do you notice a noise from the turbo first? or does it just happen too quick?
i know the engine wouldnt be able to compress water at 22:1, so do you bend rods? or does it just cut out?
        Oh Nana, what's my name?

Only took 1/2 hour to the Surf going again- no water in the airfilter. Main problem was the interior. Seats out, carpet and a good jetwash. Luckily I did it in April during our 'Summer' so the car was dry again in few days.

I have come close to flooding the engine on other ocassions......

You can gain a little extra by reversing the plastic elbow that connects the air-intake to the filter box so that it is sucking air in from the back of the engine bay.

Just remember however, if you get it wrong, at the very least you'll get very wet, and at the worst you'll be facing a big repair bill.
ok, so you start to go in, and the water is up to the bumper, but then it goes up above the headlight!

what do u do? quickly reverse or carry on???

That pic showing the air filter.....you were so so lucky...I'm about to operate fitting my snorkel, cutting the hole in the wing is not an issue...its cutting the hole in the engine bay for the snorkel to connect to the air filter...I'm frightened of weakening the inner wing...cracks appearing etc...

I went through a small pond a year or so ago,1st time very slowly to see how deep (about 2 feet) second time alot faster !!!! the wave went over the roof and the engine just died, tried to restart in the water and got some nasty noises like it could barely turn over, got it towed out the water and tried again eventually started and ran really rough for about 30 mins loads of smoke and struggling to tick over then slowly better and then fine and it's still fine a year later. Maybe I was lucky but it didn't seem to do any damage, wouldn't risk it again though, looking for a snorkle soon.
