Found my old 27/81 rig up in the loft the other day. Seriously thinking about fitting it in the Surf and see who's on the airwaves around here these days.
Here's my set up. I bought a mini stinger for offroading but im gonna get a longer one for normal use as the mini dont transmit or recieve as well as i think a longer one would.

I put mine under the stereo. Had to take dash to bits to cut the back out the wee cubby bit. Looks a nightmare but quite straight forward( must be if i can do it)
think you can get a surround for that m8 it would make it look neater but looks good though try www.thunderpole.co.uk
Just got meself a cheap CB, mainly so I can have the big whip ariel on the spare wheel carrier
Thinking of fitting the CB itself by the interior light, as a sort of roof console. It's a nice easy job to route the cables from there too.
your better off having ariel center of roof more ground plane then it will work on rear wheel carrier but center roof better n youll get a better swr reading
theres my ariel a sirio silver megawatt on mag mount about £60-70 also if your thinking of putting perminant ariel through roof use a right angle pl259 less strain on the coax then also
mine's mounted same as smiffys just see it in the 1st pic below the radio. aerial is on the rear of the roof, where a spoiler would go ish. Flattened the curve on the back of the roof with a mallet to get a good fit, doesn't notice at all.

A friend of mine has the same stinger type on his pickup, it transmits about 100 yds!
Got a modulator on mine, on the roof, fastened to the light bar.
Bought mine especially for Weardale and guess what? Everyone else had hand held radios! Waste of time unless you're traveling or off roading with mates who also have cb's.
Gonna sell mine and I've only used it twice since I bought it brand new!
Apart from not hearing anybody else around here, I also get interference from the engine around 2000rpm, have fitted a noise suppressor in the power line but has not made any difference.
Anyone remember how to set one of these CB thingys up?
