  • tow eyebolts

After the bodylift I can now raise the rear towbar up and in by 38mm. Whilst I was thinking of that I thought of mounting 2 recovery points on the bar more or less on the sides.
Not having loads of cash I trawled the web for suitably strong eyebolts and found that suitably strong ones were quite specialised and pricey.
I then found the Vauxhall Vectra Tow Eye Bolt on ebay brand new for £2.85 each. here is a picture attached. They will be mounted right thru the 60mm square section towbar with a heavy duty nut- washer on the back.
Do you think they will be strong enough a. the bolts and b. mounted on the 60mm towbar?

Just weld a couple of suitably thick metal plates to the ends of the bar with a hole drilled out for using D shackles. That thing you've posted looks awfully wimpy.

Could you not fasten a large eyebolt through your towbar ball flange like in photo.
Or fasten your tow strap over your tow ball - and make a sliding choke from braided pvc hose etc to stop strap slipping off tow ball???

I agree. Looks like it would become a deadly missile.

Chris, you will also need to think of future things being attached to your towbar if you are going to move it further in. I find in tight turning handbrake on the horse trailer rubs just under the back wheel on the rear carrier

Just stick a few shackles in your rear towpoints. Much more macho!
