  • Any ADI's out there

Thinking of a career change .I think that I've had quite enough of the Probation Service. So have been thinking about training as a driving instructor, anyone out there done it and got any advice. Which company to train with and what about franchises?

    Cheers Spoggle

Been there done that wouldn't recommend it unless you like working 13 hour days for less than minimum wage.
Oh and training will cost you about £3,000 and only about 30% complete the course and only about 60% of those are still workng as adi's after 2 years.
If after all the above you are still interested talk to a local adi about training rather than the companies you see adertised.

the husband of a girl in our office has been trying to make this work for years, tried doing it for himself, then tried doing it for the RAC, went back to doing it for himself and has this week packed it in altogether and joined the police, from what i can gather there isn't much money to be made and he got VERY fed up with the way other road users treated him/his pupils

I started my training in april, i'm not around much this weekend but could see if i can decipher anything that may be of use to you from all the training materials i have piled up in the conservatory. My training cost £3,400 upfront with a partial refund if i don't get through the exams. The reason i've done it is simply because i want to give it a go and as yet i've no financial commitments, so if it doesn't work out for me it doesn't work out but i could at least keep it in mind if i'm ever stuck again in the future, ideally i want to specialise in a few years into BORDA/LANTRA (offroad instructing) and also PCV instructing as that's what i was doing anyway and i enjoyed being on the road but couldn't handle the $h1t from passengers so would like to keep with the bus driving but get away from the public.

          The way i see it

I'm not expecting to make great money when i qualify, the advertisers reckon £30,000 - £34,000 a year at 40 lessons a week. The thing is most people want lessons around college or work so a lot of it means working evenings and weekends to actually get 40 lesssons in a week and 40 lessons plus travelling between them and wasted time etc, probably looking at a 55 hour week+ anyway. I'm only looking to do about 20-25 lessons and spend the rest of the week as an autospark.

If you want to work every evening and all weekend you can make it a career, if not it's a job which may stand you in good stead when it's time to move on.

All starting to sound a bit iffy to me, perhaps I would do better to take up a life of crime From my past experience and what I know from working in the so called 'Criminal Justice System' I could probably make a good go of it. Never mind back to the drawing board

Lets face it, if you get caught and they don't let you off (which they probably will the first six or seven times) you'll get banged up with three meals a day, and the chance to train and qualify as anything you want, and it won't cost you a penny, then ( as long as they don't let you out too soon coz the prisons are full) when you are a fully trained and qualified (locksmith) whatever, they have to help you find a job.

It's much easier than going straight.

This may be hard to believe but, as I have said in the past I work for the Probation Service on the Unpaid Work team (used to be Community Service). Not that long ago I was supervising a local lad, who as far as i know had never done a days legitimate work in his life. I order to help him leave his life of petty crime he was given a digger driver training course which I believe cost the tax payers about two and a half grand!!!! Wonder how much his victims got? World has gone bl00dy mad. No wonder the crime rate is so high. Wouldn't care so much but this lad didn't have a days work in him. World owes me a living type.

                Come the revolution brothers!!!!!
