  • Going over to the dark side .......

Somehow the Surf seems to have picked up some rather significant scratches and is looking rather more shabby than normal - I've been told by herself that I'm contemplating giving her a good going over (the Surf that is - the last time Jackie let me near her we ended up with triplets !) but I have a small problem in that I'm bone idle .....

    So on to the questions:

Do the electric polishers work and if so can you make any recommendations ?

Does Meguiars 'Quick Clay' do the job it claims ?

What's the best preparation if I'm going to go the whole hog with Autoglym etc ?

This all seems so wrong to me .......

Life is too important to take seriously !

Hosepipe. (connected to a tap) spray truck to loosen dirt/dust.

Bucket with warm soapy water + Sponge or wash mit. Wash truck thoroughly, do wheels last.

      Scrubbing brush to clean tyres.

      Hose down again.

Chamios off water, allow to dry.

T-cut colourfast polish (in the colour that closely matches your truck obviously!) Wipe on, polish off.

Wonder tyres spray for the umm, tyres (also, spray onto a rag and wipe over window rubbers after you have polished the bodywork)

Clean all glass inside and out.

No need for electric polisher, elbow grease is healthier!

Have a coffee, tea, ciggy. (delete as applicable)

Wash truck with Auto Glym Body work shampoo conditioner, rinse and chamois off.

              Then T cut body work.

Apply Auto Glym Super Resin Polish, buff off.

Then apply Auto Glym Extra Gloss Protection semi hard polish.

Will come up like new, and yes the electric buffers work a treat!!

Give car quick once over with hose to get worst bits off

Give keys to wife and let her drive down the the nearest car wash and let them clean the car.
Cheap wash 15 quid all the way up to the best which is about 80 quid.

I think the mosty I have ever given the wife is £40 quid and it came back amazing, and it gives me time to do what I want.

The local one to us is run by about 10 polish guys and they do do a good job, not great but good.

Another thing I have done once when selling a car was to use one of the services in the yellow pages, where the guy came to my work and did an amazing job, it took him nearly 2 hours but did cost £100, he even tcut it (but i provided the Tcut) That was about 4 years ago I dont know if these guys still exist with the cheap drive through ones now.

If it's going to turn blue you can forget it !!!!!

I reckon it'll take a while before I build up sufficient enthusiasm but it's going to happen eventually .........

                  Thanks for the comments guys

I used to be a car valeter and have used all that stuff. Meguiars is the nuts no doubt about it.
I took my truck through a load of bushes and was gutted when I saw the scratches. T Cut followed by a buffing with Meguiars restored it completely.
Autoglym is ok but your paying for the name.

The other option is the one I use........

Leave it alone, it'll only get scratched again
