      question about winches,

what is the difference between the 12v and 24v? and dont say 12v

      are they better?
      why are the better?

noticed that they cost a fair bit more..

do they just have more ooomff?

      cheers scotty

You cant use a 24v on a 12v system basically.

          ahh,,

so is there any difference performance wise of a 10000lb 12v and a 10000 24v winch?

Not if they've been properly designed. The '10000' is the rating in pounds usually.

No its the voltage that the vehicle runs at 12v is most cars and vans 24v is lorries etc. you annot use a 24v on a 12v system as there is not enough power and if you used 12v on a 24v system it would burn out

sorry about all the questions, but

we would be able to run a 24v winch with our two batterys?

                  cheers scotty

No due to the surf being a 12v system
And the batteries are in parallel giving 12v........not in series giving 24v and that would fry the rest of the surf electrics

Bought 1 of these winches a few months ago for £186 off flee bay.
It was a 12000lb 5.5ton 12v winch wired and wireless remote.

how do you find the winch jon?

have you used it in anger yet?

nice work there in the fitting of it. i would prefer mine (when i get one) to be higher than that.

just have to wait on the results of the 4x4RUS winch bumper to see if it is affordable.

                        nice job though.

                        cheers scotty

Only had a quick play at pulling daughters car up the back lane. Should get to play next weekend when i go to a local 4x4 site. I want to get stuck lol
As for the mounting position it was coppied from another forum members that i have seen working and worked well there so went for the same mounting position which tucks away neatly. with a winch bumper you would get a bit more height.
While the welder was out i made a ground anchor but not had time to try it yet.
