  • Got me a surf today!!

Got a 3.0 SSRX Limited 1996 from "FourTrack" today, looks great in blue met over silver with a huge SURF decal all down the side.
    It is the KZN185 model.
Well pleased. Gary had loads to choose from, I drove 2 that I fancied after looking at all of them.
Nice bloke and well prepared surfs I thought.
The cambelt and a minor service were done, years mot and six months tax.
It has a stainless exhaust with only one box but has a rather "chavvy" huge rear pipe unfortunately, must be about 4" . Hope the insurance company don't take offence.
I am going to have a good checkover of the brakes tomorrow and generally have a good look over it, Is there anything specific worth looking at do you all think?
Wheels are a little bit corroded but I am being really fussy, tyres look ok but not new. I really need some sort of roof rack, anyone know best place to get one that will fit the rails in the roof?

Will try and post some pictures soon.

    Cheers
    Pete.

Look after the transmission fluid and the transmission will never let you down. Toyota Auto boxes are in my book the most reliable you can get.

If the fluid goes off colour change it to keep it in top nick.

            Thats my tuppence worth

                    Thanks for the tips everyone.
Think I will change the ATF soon.
Forgot all about taking some pics today.
Been underneath it all day today, noticed a pretty severe judder when braking this morning that didn't show up on the test drive round the country lanes. Got intouch with the guy I bought from and he is going to send me a set of discs and pads which will hopefully sort it out.
Took it down to my local garage/tyre/mot place (good guy's who know about 4x4s) they took it for a test drive and they believe it is the discs, so should not be a problem?
Took all four wheels off checking for dodgy or bulging tyres, all seem fine, took the drums off, couldn't believe how easy they were, all looks fine in there, shoes good, cylinders not leaking, looks very good in side like maybe they have been replaced previously, handbrake adjusters working well.
I like the fact you can get underneath without jacking it up
Got the grease gun out, found around 10-12 grease nipples!!
Everything looks good underneath though a lot of the rubbers in the drop links and most other suspension bits do seem to be covered in splits/cracks, is this ok or needing to be sorted?

I promise to take some pics tomorow.
(wether I will be able to post them is another matter)

                    Pete
