Look at the very front of each chassis rail, there are 2 threaded holes right on the end, yuo should have a tow hook bolted into one side. Most fit in these holes.

Threads may be rusty if nothing has been bolted in them, often need to run a tap up there first. M12x1.25 is the thread you need.

What other size are you saying that they use for this purpose.

They are some Japanese only fine thread apparently, not Metric or any of our old British stuff. Got mine from Toyota.

The reason I ask this Rich is that I went out to the Surf last time this question was asked and took out the bolt in question. I check its diameter and it is .472" =12mm and the pitch I also cheked with my pitch gauges and found it to be 1.25 which makes it 12mm metric fine. This is the bolt that Tony has suggested. There is also 12mm in 1.5 & 1.75 pitch.
As the use for this bolt is in short to take the towing hooks and the nug bar I think any thing less than 12mm would be dangerous.
I think mabe that you might have been spun a bit of a story by the service dept.I have never heard of any threads that the Japs have invented. Any how as long as you have the right part and your safe thats all that matters.
            All the best

Yeah, its a standard metric thread, they come in 1.75 1.5 or 1.25, in various diameters, nothing special, jap invented or other B/$hite from people who make things up to cover ignorance.

Well it certainly baffled me!! bstards, took me ages to get them poxy bolts.

Still haven't fitted the A-Bar though, need number plate - oh and the vital ingredient time!

Sorry if I caused any confusion Rugren.

I have the same problem, does anyone know where I can get these brackets so I can attach my a-bar?

                        cheers

On the side with the hook you can use the same bolts and the A-Bar will line up with the holes that are in the chassis.

On the other side you can either get another hook from one of the breakers and use those bolts or you can get some M12 Metric Fine (1.25 pitch - cheers Tony and Rubble's ;-) ) from a decent bolt supplier and bolt the bar on.

                          Regards

                          Rich.

The hook on mine bolts upwards into the chassis leg, whereas the A bar seems to bolt onto the side of the leg. I will have another look in the morning.

The Yota A-Bar has fixings as attached.
