You could try logging onto www.sophos.com and downloading their AV program which is a full working copy

It sounds like you may need to edit the registry too - you're going to need an expert for that - where's Marky???

for the registry you will need to download something like registry mechanic, it deletes all registry files that are no longer used

look for a programme called customizer XP it allows you to edit the start up registry, tweak the RAM on your computer. Basically it lets you do the things window won't allow you to do.

You mean it'll make a M$ machine run for more than five minutes without going arse end up?

msconfig will let you edit the startup files, wouldn't go tweaking ram. XP runs fine if you dont mess around with it and don't click yes on all those funny sites.

It automatically tweaks the ram. It's good as it allows some programmes (like high demanding games) more access to it. And I never say yes on those funny sites. I'm only in it for the free tour lol

if you know the name of the popup (ie message on the popup title bar) or the name of the program, you could edit the registry manually.

                        click on the Start button
                        select run
type in regedit and click on OK button

most programs/viruses I've come across put itself in the run or runonce registry folder on the local machine.

PS: save the registry before making any changes as you will certainly screw up your windows if you delete the wrong key!....
