Quick tip for when your fiddling:

Y'know when you apply some of the artistic effects it comes out really horrible looking, Try reducing the colour depth to 16 or 256 colours before you apply the effect. The program will probably increase the colour depth again to apply the effect, but it doesn't actually change the colours back to what they were. Sometimes it seems (to me at least) to give better results.
