  • hot engine at idle

    hi all
went out today to post some flyer/ads for me business, and didn't get two mile before the oil pressure dorpped and engine temp shot up. so after crawling home i checked the oil and coollant levels, both were low so topped them up. it's sorted the oil pressure out but it still gets dangerously close to the red line on the temp gauge when idling, at traffic lights etc, but fine when its on the move. any ideas???
please not the head ... please not the head.. please not the head

The big spinny fan by the radiator.

When you topped up the water, did you make sure you got all the air out?

If "burping" the cooling system doesn't work then check for restricted flow through the radiator, or na faulty water pump, or thermostat.

Start the engine from cold with the rad cap off, is there pressure there IE does the water blow? if yes sounds like the head has died, if NO flush the system IE drain and fill @ least two times with a few miles in between then refill again this time with cooling system cleaner added, follow instructions on the bottle then drain & fill with proper coolant, change the cap & termostat 'cos they are cheap. Make sure the big lecki cooling fans are switching on OK too!

FLUSH FLUSH FLUSH FLUSH! The cooling system is crud on the Surf any small flow restriction will kill it. (got the T shirt)

Hope & pray it aint your head, 'tiss a pure bassa to sort.
