hi guys,in the process of sticking a new head back on the beast but was wondering whats the best type/ quality antifreeze/coolant to use in the surf
ethylene glycol or propylene glycol?? would a certain type damage anything in the engine as its 16 years old??! anyone used the toyota 4 life coolant? dont mind spending a bit more if it will give it an extra chance at cooling better!! cheers

You want ethylene glycol I believe. Toyota red is ethylene glycol (I know that cos I changed the coolant today and that's what it said on the label )

          Blue:
Okay. Not the best, but it'll do the job.

          Green:
Very good. No contaminants like the blue, and will also mix merrily with blue and green antifreeze.

          Red:
Very good. Like green, no contaminants. Will not mix with any other antifreeze though, so must be put in a perfectly clean coolant system.

Personally, I use the Comma green.

I use Toyota Red anti freeze. It comes pre mixed too.

A Toyota technician that I used to work with said he wouldn't use anything else, even though it's more expensive.
