Difference between series 2 and 3 surf?

Hey guys - newbie surfer here!

Just wondering what the differences are cos i saw a series 3 today and it just looked a bit face lifte and bodycoloured. Anything else and are the parts interchangeable between the series'?

The 3rd gen contains more plastic, less metal. I dont beliive theres too many parts which are interchangeable either although theres clever people here who are better placed to answer that than me. Performance and economy wise theres no big difference unless you get an intercooled 3rd gen which are that little bit more powerful. I beleive also that the 3rd gen has a centre diff and can be driven in 4 wheel drive on tarmac. 2nd gen cant. It should only be driven in 4WD when traction is poor. ( off road or on snow/ice).

3rd gens tend to be owned by hairdressers and will commonly be full of styling products and tools. 2nd gens are more agricultural and will usually be seen with bales of hay and a sheep or pig in the back

Haha - I was going to say that - I think the third gen had some special editions:

The Nicky Clarke
The Vidal Sassoon

and lets not forget the Surf L'Oreal - Because you're worth it - standard equipement includes, hair spray holders front and rear, hairdryer sockets, towel rail (heated on the SE model) curler holders, special pocket for those dumb sunglasses and a hair gel dispenser on the dash....

Try this link for some of the changes, although its states the engine changed I believe that was for the American market and the 3.0 TD in the KZN130 is the same engine in the 3.0 KZN185. I think

You see now, this is the bit i don't get. Just where is this more plastic less metal? As far as I can see there's virtually no difference between 2nd & 3rd Gen in this regard. In fact the 1st Gen has the most plastic/composite material of all with its entire rear upper bodyshell, yet the 1st Gen is without doubt the least hairdressery most macho Surf of all.
Does this mean plastic actually equals more aggressive? Perhaps the 2nd Gen owners actually have plastic envy coz they all really want 1st Gens but can't have em, so they slate 3rd Gens to make themselves feel better? Hmm perhaps they're all Plastophopes, who will knock something rather than admit they really want it?








Its funny though, when I had my 2nd Gen I didn't like the look of the 1st Gens, but always fancied a 3rd gen even though at that point I had not seen one in the flesh....... now that I have a 3rd Gen I do indeed prefer it to the 2nd Gen (but only by a small margin) but now find I'd love to have a 1st Gen!

Hang on, I've got long hair and often have a beard or am at least generally unshaven, plus I've occasionally been called a hippy! Damn, maybe I should go back to a 2nd Gen to fit in

Well as the 3rd gen is an evolution of the 2nd gen I suppose we could apply the same theory here

And that is a total waste of time. as they simply wear them on top of their heads at night or when its not sunny or when indoors. The pocket never actually gets used
