    And

    http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=20636.0

Gone are the days of continuesly having to use command lines to get anything to work.
And with most distros coming with a live cd, then you can try them out before installing to your hard drive.

PCLinux took just 8 minutes to install for me.
This is still a test release, the final one (i think) but it is so stable and fast, much more so than windows xp.
im getting this now, thought i would give it a try
will my wireless work? if not then im fecked in linux and will have to open windows
    Oh Nana, what's my name?

Personally I use a MAC for everything. I have Parallels Software running so I can have XP in a virtual mode if I need it. It is a full version of XP and it runs very good. I can have everything I need in my XP virtual PC and it runs faster than it does native on my work laptop.

The MAC is reliable, secure and faster than any Windows Laptop I have seen.

I have a MACBOOK for sale if anyone wants it? Only ever been used about 6 times as I got a new MACBook Pro...it's on EBAY at the mo...4 days to go...

Other than that, most problems can be solved via the forum

Not really, they've redesigned it. That's why a lot of apps and drivers don't work, because they weren't designed for Vista, you woulnd't go around saying that you Mac drivers don't work on Linux and bitch about it to Apple.

In Vista, by default yopu are nolonger and administrator of the system, and have to enter SU mode to complete tasks which require admin rights. THey way drivers interact witht the kernel have been changed too, I too tired to go through everything at the mo.

You don't have to have Linux to get free software. Open Office was still free alst time I looked. Lots of other free software too.

Linux Enterprise inst'y really free either.
