Ignoring all the banter for a second or two ........ how many people are there that actually have an objective (rather than objectionable !) view on the different Surfs ?

Unfortunately the limitations on the poll prevent me from covering the issue comprehensively but it's a start !

I've only had my 2nd gen so no real experiance, but.

I prefer the look of the 2nd gen.
I'd like the transmission of the 3rd gen (on road 4x4 if I want).
Some of the time I'd like the lift up tailgate (not having to wait in the poring rain to open the boot).
And I'd prefer the intercooled engine.

So I think I'd like a hybred.

had a 1st gen, now got my 2nd gen and to be honest it's an impossible question to answer.

the 1st gen feels a lot tougher than the 2nd gen, more solid, stiffer suspension/handling but was still comfortable to drive. the 2nd gen is more comfortable for me though because it's bigger, and the more room the better for me. i also think the 1st gen was quicker, that may not be true, but i thought it was (maybe the 1st gens are lighter?).

looks, the 1st gen wins hands down. i think the 1st gens and the old blazers are the best looking trucks ever, then the 2nd gen surfs, and older L.C's.

1st gen is the best offroader out of all the surfs.

BUT, everything works on my 2nd gen, and it's the BEST colour (that's GOLD BTW) and the extra doors are a massive plus.

hey mate i'm only kidding, its forum banter, the newest version of any vehicle no matter what make or manufacture cops a ribbing, i would like a 3rd gen in all honesty, i think they look quite rude and definatly an important step from what is a cracking looking truck being the gen 2.
same for gen 1 owners, the gen 1 is a great piece of kit and still looks good today.

I've only ever had the one, my 'ucking expensive second gen. I have however driven a third gen and i have to say I prefere that to the second. The one I drove was not only faster, it had better brakes (by miles) was bigger and had better suspension. However I think the 3rd looks better from the front and side, but the rear is butt ugly. I hate that poxy stuck on rear wiper look and the $$$$ rear spoiler.

A 3rd gen with a 2nd gen rear ar*e please...
