  • Mot help needed please

    Hi all

Failed MOT on "Nearside (idler arm)steering piviot point has excessive play

? what is it and how difficult is it to change (is there a write up/picture any where?)

I will get burned for the next question... is the nearside the side closet to the driver or the Kurb?

    Thanks
    Mark

No idea, sorry - mine failed on the same thing, as well as upper ball joints, rear anti roll bar bushes and something else - so I got the guy at my local garage to do it all....

i would think it wouldn't be too hard to change as its only 3 bolts and 1 ball joint to split with a b/j splitter or a good heavey hammer.I've never done one so i'm only assuming that it would be quite straight forward

My vehicle just failed on the same thing (on my third idler arm now in three years- although it has been greenlaned and off-road)

It might just need re-greasing to pack it out, but I changed mine just be on the safe side. As already stated held on by 3 bolts and the ball joint to the outer/inner drag-links

You can by the bushes but you still have to dismantle the thing, so might as well get the whole body.

the new ones from roughtrax do come with a grease nipple whereas the originals did not have em.

There is no need to change it.

There is a bush kit available from Toyota for £5.10 - two plastic bushes.

Just go to your local main dealer - they will take about a day to get you the kit.

while you got it stripped if it hasn't got a greese nipple, why not fit one?

no mate they dont self tap, once you have a nipple you could beg borrow or steal a tap to suit, or know a man that can!
