On my first surf I changed the standard 215/75/15 Kumho`s to 265/70/15 in Colway AT`s. Leaving the tyre shop it felt like I was towing something large and heavy. Didn`t notice much fuel difference but down on acceleration/power. Colway`s are known to be heavy though. Rolling -resistance may be more to do with the width of the tyre and tread rather than diameter?

Was that on a narrow body? As far as i am aware standard sizing on a widearch model is 265/70r15

Hi Rod, Yes, It was a narrow-body 1987 1st gen. Done some research into smaller tyres for my current 3 litre wide-bod. and think I could go down to 235/75/15. I think anything smaller than the standard 265/70/15 would look silly under the arches though.
Well since I was last here (twas more than a year, maybe even two) the truck's been molested properly with a lift and some 33" Kumho KL71s (and sliders and some spots and some aesthetic stuff). And I can agree with Phantom. Fuel doesn't have long to get acquainted with the tank before it's converted to forward motion. It's noisy, it doesn't stop very well on tarmac, it does about (litres/gallons & km/miles calculation done on back of envelope without much care) 15MPG, it vibrates, it's borderline illegal (no arch extensions), it's lost 10mph at the top end and it's slower to accelerate. But in mud it is UNSTOPPABLE. I tow Discoveries on a regular basis! I love it!
But reading this thread I've just realised something (obvious) for the first time! Maybe it's just the INDICATED consumption that's gone up and the INDICATED top speed that's gone down.
The speedo now indicates PRECISELY the right speed - checked with GPS.
talking about beautiful sounds,v8 with twin snorkles and an unbalanced exhaust,who needs a stereo. im not even gonna comment on the mpg.
I have to confess- I have the original Toyota radio cassette which stays off 99% per cent of the time. Instead I play my own tunes- blipping the accelerator! Nothing like I would expect your V8 to sound but a diesel with a Powerflow 4.5 inch tail-pipe sounds good!
