It's a timer wired in to "bypass" the ignition switch allowing you to turn off the key and lock up the truck but the engine still runs.Originally posted by The FerretWhat's a turbo timer then??
When a turbo spins it can get up to some serious rpm, and oil is fed to keep the bearing lubricated and cooled. When you stop the tubo is still spinning & is hot. Allowing the engine to tick over gives the turbo time to slow down and passes oil through the bearing to cool it.
If you drive the motor hard then stop it immediatly it can damage the bearing.... and to coin a phrase...... They don't like it up em!
Some timers have connections to the brake or handbrake so they stall the engine if the handbrake is taken off.... stops some scumbag driving off with your truck.... Insurance companies don't like them, and they might be illegal... although I read it somewhere that compression ignition engines were allowed to run unattended..... but don't quote me on that!
