My trusty old steel wheels were getting a tad of rust coming through so decided to give them a sand then a coat of primer.

Thing is,i like the colour they are now

So do i keep them this colour?
Return them to silver?
Paint them black

Decisions decisions!!!!!!!!

i did something similar in a different kind of way, i used to restore vw beetles, and i use to refurb the steel wheels.

• get a paint can, 5 litre metal one.
• fill in 3/4 way with petrol.
• put into the petrol 5 paint cans full of polystyrene chippings.
• add oil based paint concentrate.
• put lid on and leave for a couple of days.

when you take the lid off you can simply paint the wheels with this paint, the petrol which has acted as a catalyst and disolved all the polystyrene, evaporates. this leaving the wheels covered in raw material polythene, this coating is mega strong scratch resistant and 100% waterproof.
put more polystyrene to make a roof sealant kind of stuff.
garden gates or anything metal rustproofed instantly.
i've used it to waterproof outside electrical cables too, put the cables on some carrier bag, cover them with a thicker mix, wrap the carrier bag over and let set, resulting in a solid block of polythene encasing you wires.


obviously, dont smoke and paint.
