  • Fuel pump adjustment

For those who may be considering doing it, apparently things can go wrong.

Thought it might be something to consider whilst deciding.

Ok, that's one negative. I was out in mine last night and I'm still impressed. I might just wind it back a little though.

Ohheck, dont like the sound of that, i did about eight'th of a turn several weeks since and it really seems to have not done any damage, truck runs a bit better (other issues to be sorted) and i was'nt expecting instant $hit of a shovel accelleration but along with the ATF in the tank it's not bad

I think the guy on the Oz site already had engine problems before he touched the pump screw.

Yeah maybe, i would have thought that if this screw was so sensitive it would have been covered in a more secure manner, you know, so people cant fiddle about with it so easy'ly, still thinking of giveing mine another few clicks, that would be 1/4 turn then, the concensus would seem to be more positive results than negitive, next is the washers on the gate and the cable tie jobbies,

yeah i reckon he has previous issues, a small adj what we are doing isnt going to send out plumes of smoke ,if we go 1/8 to far.

I am thinking of adjusting my fuel pump, only I want to turn it down to hopefully increase my mpg. At the moment I am getting about 17mpg round the doors and about 19mpg on a run. Would the adjustment give me better fuel consumption and where is the adjust screw on a 1995 2nd gen 3.0l?

              Cheers

Your MPG strikes me as very low. I get 30 but I am always on steady A roads and so doing 50-65mph. When did you last do the air filter, fuel filter and shove some injector cleaner through it? I've read on here that 24mpg is the average for a 3l.

Of course it could be driving style! Do you have ECT on and O/D off (this would lower mpg)?

I always have the overdrive on, I am usually heavy footed in my little micra, but take it easy in the surf. Forgive my ignorance, but where is the ECT switch (No I am not a woman asking this type of question, although I was once called a big girls blouse )

The air cleaner is new but i`m about due to do a service anyway. What kind of injector cleaner would you recommend?

I use Redex. Most petrol stations stock it.

I have just tried playing about with the settings, as above, it revs higher with the overdrive off and there seems to be no difference with the ECT on, how will this give better mpg?

                              It won't !

Overdrive on and ECT off will give better fuel consumption but gentle throttle control will help loads too.

The ECT delays gearchanges by around 500 revs - useful for towing but obviously consumes more fuel

Life is too important to take seriously !
