Even if 3.0's turn out to have head problems (which I don't buy, as we've got Linda's hot lots of time and its still sound, I think its just normal wear and tear) we still have the extra 40hp and 5 extra mpg.

Would just like to add that as a 2.4 owner in the only colour to have (you all know) that after replacing the entire engine 2 yrs ago mine has not had any probs other than those age related and that was antiroll bar tie rods and the good old knuckle bashing starter motor replacement. Never going to get my money back but who cares does the job.

              A happy 2.4 owner.

did i mention it hardly gets used, lol
              Should have bought a 3ltr

I use my 3.0ltr everyday. I run it on Vege / Derv mix all year round, and apart from a rattling heat shield somewhere and the need to top it up with coolant more often than I used to, I have not had any problems at all.

                  Touch Wood !!

It rarely gets through the MOT without about £120 worth of bits and pieces, but what 14 year old car wouldn't.

Personally if someone offered me a BMW X5 or Porsche Cayenne, I'd take it . . . . . then I'd sell it and buy another newer Surf and enjoy spending the thousands I had left on myself and my family !!

Once a surfer, always a surfer!!

PS Has anyone else noticed that the last replys here were left at 14:35, but its still only 14:00? Spooky.

People have changed, not the vehicles. A lot of people these days buy things, usually whingeing about the price for starters, and then expect the faeries to keep things running perfectly without them doing bugger all maintenance. It's not just vehicle related. It seems to be a masochistic minority these days who actually want, and like, to maintain and repair their vehicles.

My 2.4 seems fine, hope I'm not tempting fate here. Yes there have been the odd problem but nothing that I would not expect from a 112-15 year old car, I've had it three years for those that want to point out i should know what age it is! I have made up my mind that should anything major go wrong then that will be the time for the V8 to go in.

Why get rid of a vehicle that has no rust is mechanically sound apart from a possible weak engine. As we rightly know for what the Surf is worth if you sell it what would you get, some old junker with a blue oval? I know what i would rather be driving.

I use my 2.4 everyday for work and she's done a few long distanc trips too, never missed a beat. No major problems to report either, although the MOT is due on 14th of March so fingers crossed.
By the way is there is ther something wrong with the clock on this site? It's always an hour fast. Looked quick at earlier and thought why am I at work? I should have gone home and hour ago lol
