They pay their own tax and National Insurance, they need no sick pay/leave, and they have their own insurance. Contractors are used because they are easier to use, and can be dismissed off the job at anytime without so much as a bye your leave. No verbal/written warning or unfair dismissal tripe. Plus, they don't have to be paid if there's no work coming in. They only work when required.
