Finaly managed to blackmail one of my mechi's into removing the head from the Surf today on the off chance he might find a crack....FOUR yes 4, every friggin pair of valves in every piggin cylinder had a crack wider than a girlies working parts, twas so bad he could almost take the head off in two halves.

Is 8 valves working as 4 a new record??

Mine was the same, every valve seat cracked, and had been for a long time unil it finally steamed up just after I bought it.

Its not unusual, No 4 normaly goes first, then depending on how hots its got the rest go, 4 and 3 is most common, all 4 is a properly overheated engine.
