I saw a similar thing once. Dark grey sky to the north and east, sun low in the west. a flock of seagulls reflected the sun and looked like orange balls of fire, very bright against the dark sky. they moved in formation, and as the sun wen t behind clouds, they 'dissapeared' then reappeared soon after as the sun came out again. cloaking devices see, stolen from Surfs.

all in all very odd, but then I noticed they were seagulls!!
